CSIF Disk Space Shortage

posted Jun 2, 2018, 9:35 PM by Jim Moersfelder

Users are getting errors like "No Space Left on Device".   The /home directory space is full.  The CS System Support Group is removing files but it is very slow and users are writing faster then we can remove.  Eventually the file removals will go faster then use but until then you might get the "No Space Left" error for a little bit.

X11 Forwarding and Using Graphical Applications via SSH

posted Apr 3, 2015, 10:23 AM by Parker Temple   [ updated Jul 19, 2016, 12:21 PM by Reuben Castelino ]

This post is intended to explain what is needed to use any application with a graphical interface remotely on a CSIF machine using SSH. e.g. matlab
Disclaimer: Using high intensity graphics applications will be extremely slow. e.g. Rendering a graph in matlab

  • Make sure XQuartz is installed and up to date
  • SSH to a CSIF machine with the -Y option. e.g. ssh -Y
  • Linux runs an X server natively, so just ssh with the -Y option. e.g ssh -Y

If you have any issues or other problems don't hesitate to email, call, or visit our support staff in Kemper room 47.

Note: For those of you using this process for matlab, Only PCs 33-60 have matlab installed on them.
